In this unit I learned that everyone has their own individual identity and linguistic identity. Also I learnt that companies are outsourcing to places that have workers that will make they product for a lower wage they the workers would in America.
I found it really interesting that the government tried to preserve the linguistic identity of Francophone by creating the Bill 101, but in my opinion that attempt fail to preserve the linguistic identity of the francophone.
I can connect what have learned in class to mechanics because some of the materials I use in mechanics were made in another country probably because a company has outsourced.
What surprised me this unit was everywhere you look and anyone you see has their own individual and linguistic identity and that our world is a very bilingual place.
One concept that I am still having difficulty with is universalization and Americanization.
One question I still have is why do most people think badly of the francophone?
One skill or learning strategy I found helpful was the word wheel. I found it helpful because I could see how all the different vocabulary that we learnt are connected.
If I was to teach someone how to use this I would tell them to first….. Then…..Next……Finally….. This will help them learn/remember pick a word the pick another word that can connect to it in anyway.
Outsourcing is where a company pays a worker in another country to make their product for a lower wage. I think companies outsource because in the end they will make more money by paying someone in another country to make their product for a low wage then turn around and sell the product for a high price. Some of the advantages are that the company makes more money and the worker in the forging country will be making profit. Some of the disadvantages are that the workers that the company was paying regular wage lose their jobs.
In the statement the francophone is trying to say that they don’t need the government to try and save the French language by creating Bill 101. He is saying that he has faith that the francophones of the world can do that themselves. Bill 101 is where the government was trying to preserve that French language by making French the official language of Quebec. I think that the government passed Bill 101 because they thought that it would actually work, and because if they made French the official language of Quebec that more people will speak it.
Some of the arguments in favour of Bill 101 are that it will help preserve the French language by making people speak it in Quebec. Then there are some arguments against Bill 101 because people don’t think it will work. People think it won’t work because if you force people to speak a language that they don’t wont to they are more then likely to rebel.
I agree with the statement made in the source. I agree because they government does not need to get involved. They don’t need to get involved because if they force people to do what they don’t wont, in this case speaking French, they will rebel. In my opinion the government should just let what happens happen. The statement in the source is linked to globalization because they are trying to change the way people look at the French language.
